I bought this service in March but suddenly came up that they don't provide any service for old versions of Mac Os. So I asked for refund.
They still haven't given me any of it and keep charging me for nothing!!!
Special "hi" to David Lam who I talked to about it - you didn't help!
It didn't change my IP, I checked on the Xmyip site. Tried to start it after killing it & a popup notice said "program still running" It also couldn't bypass a DMCA user id / reconnect page from Century Link which I received courtesy of a P2P'ing roommate. Windscribe cut through it like a hot knife through warm butter AND changed my IP. I only wish there was a negative star rating available for this software - I'd give it a minus 80. I'll have to settle for one star, strictly as a "bless their short bus riding & wearing a helmet without being on the football team little hearts" affirmation for their sorry attempt, as apparently, everyone gets a trophy just for trying these days.
First and foremost OpenVPN is a protocol and NOT a VPN Service like WIndscribe is. Windscribe in fact runs on OpenVPN., IKEv2, and SOCKS5. OpenVPN as a client requires you to connect via a VPN profile to a VPN service (or VPN you have setup on say AWS or a web server somewhere on OpenVPN server side). It did not change Robert's IP because he likely was not. He may want to check himself instead of leaving a review that a company making a protocol is riding the short bus when he has zero understanding of what exactly OpenVPN is.
His review is his own fault and should actively be removed because he is quite clearly someone that has no idea what a protocol is.
Play whatever nomenclature games you like - I found what works for me, & what it ISN'T is open VPN. If it is NOT a VPN then perhaps naming this protocol "OPEN VPN" was a less than stellar choice, & underscores my comment regarding the company's "ticket to ride" the short bus. The name Implies that it's a vpn & not merely a protocol. If I read the words "strawberry jam" on a jar at the market & bring it home with me, I very well expect it to contain STRAWBERRY JAM when I pop it open, & not just some protocol client to assist me in locating/spreading jam. Those two things I can do on my own. See how that works?
Final thought: You mentioned in your reply that open vpn didn't change my IP because I "likely was not". Likely was not "what"? Would you mind maybe cleaning up the syntax on that thought just a little so that it reads intelligibly? Feels like you might have left part of the sentence out.
Look a protocol is a protocol. OpenVPN is meant if setup for you to put it on a box somewhere else other than your home network. You could put it on an amazon S3 server somewhere or a box you rent elsewhere and then it would change the API. It likely didn't change your VPN as you were very likely just using it on your home network. You can't just slap a protocol / client on your home machine and expect it to do something as that is not how it works. OpenVPN (which is what the VPN provider you are using uses as their protocol too by the way) is literally like saying you aren't able to send email because you only downloaded an email client or protocol and never bothered actually setting it up as a provider or the like. (For whatever reason the likely was not got cut off and I had typed more there. My initial statement was likely not setting it up on a separate server outside your home).
OpenVPN is literally just meant to be a protocol for you or for vpn services to use to set up a VPN service of your own. It will not change your IP unless you actively set it up on a separate server so to clarify here for OpenVPN to work if you are using it yourself and not using a provider (like Windscribe) requires use of a server you yourself have access to. There are many guides out there how to use OpenVPN to set up your own VPN service/server and how to use the OpenVPN client (there is both a back end and front end to it) to connect to it as well as using windows 10 (and some other OSes) built in VPN connections as well.
The ticket to ride the short bus shit is really out of line because it is you that seems to be confused and if you actually go to OpenVPNs site it basically states either hosting for business, personal (they provide a VPN through their private tunnel VPN), or you can download Access Server to use on Linux (debian, red hat, ubuntu, centOS, amazon linux 2) you however still need a server outside of your home set up for access server and then use the OpenVPN client software to access it.
Almost every single VPN provider on the planet currently uses OpenVPN (some are developing newer protocols now too). It is not their fault that you got confused and likely did not set up a server and instead just started slapping around the VPN client software that literally does nothing without being connected. I can guarantee you are using Windscribe with the OpenVPN protocol as their ipsec protocol was trash when I used it and isn't secure (it also defaults to openVPN).
This is a case of you saw VPN in the name and somehow assumed it was a VPN service like Windscribe and not a VPN client/server meant to setup your own service. To use your own analogy against you it is like going out and buying a strawberry jam kit and then saying that you don't have strawberry jam because they expect you to actually make it first or someone else to make it then sell it.
It is *IN FACT* and *ENTIRELY* their fault for using a deceptive product name. Look again. The word "protocol" does not appear after the name. If you're selling a strawberry jam kit the qualifying descriptive term "KIT" should be the very next word after "jam" That's just common decency. Sorry you're unable to grasp that rather basic concept. I may not have a Master's degree in Linux bash-ology but even I get that much.
